See: Muscle twitching and convulsions with uncontrolled extension and flexion movements; possibly a bitten tongue and whitish-red foam around the mouth.

Hear: Initial cry: A sudden shout just before the start of a seizure.

Feel: Clammy skin.

Emergency call 112: Make an emergency call.

The 5 W questions:
Where did the accident happen?
What happened?
How many people are affected?
What injuries?
Wait for further questions!

Use speakerphone: Turn on your phone’s speaker to keep your hands free.

Do not hang up: Do not hang up unless the 112 dispatcher instructs you to.

Involve bystanders: Ask someone to hold up a coat or blanket, if available, to protect the person's privacy. Have them bring a first aid kit.

Report condition changes: Inform the control center if the person's condition changes.

POSITIONING

Prevent injuries: Let the seizure run its course, do not try to hold the person down. If possible, gently cushion their head to prevent injury.

Postictal phase: Once the seizure is over, turn the person onto their side into the recovery position -without placing anything under their head.

TEMPERATURE MANAGEMENT

 

Prevent heat loss: Place a jacket or emergency blanket around the person.

Ground cold: If the person is lying on the ground, place a blanket or clothing under them to protect them from the cold.
